Department of English

English Plays an important role in the domains of Education, Administration, Business and Political relation, Judiciary etc and is therefore a passport to Social mobility, higher education and better Job Opportunities. It is a channel of expression and communication. It plays a pivotal role in the personality of an individual. The department of English was established in 1981. The Department has adapted and modified the curriculum provided by ANU suitably to meet.

Presently there is a single staff member is working in the Department. The faculty of the department always strives hard to enrich the students’ knowledge and skills to suit to the changing needs and aspirations of the society. They strive hard for all round development of the students. They do their best effort to better the standards of the students. The globalization and the growing importance of English language have made it imperative both for the teachers and students to refresh their skills from time to time to develop their abilities of spoken English along with the written English. Majority of the students studying in this college come from rural areas and belong to the first generation literates. They cannot evince interest in the subject due to inborn fear and lack of proper understanding of the value of the subject. Further, the faculty of the department helps to the students to enrich their skills. The department extends its services and cooperation to other departments also even to the non-teaching staff. It helps them in their day to day official correspondence. The department also extends its services to train the students in employability skills through the English Language Lab (ELL), Jawahar Knowledge Center (JKC), NSDC and Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation (APSSDC).

VISION

  • To enhance the employability skills of the rural students by providing a conductive environment where the students improve Communicative, Soft and Life Skills to become self-confident, Knowledgeable and well-disciplined citizens.

MISSION

  • To improve the communication skills through the Language Skills – LSRW
  • To impart self confidence into the students by involving them in the oral activities such as Group Work, Pair Work and presentations etc.
  • To prepare them to get plum placements in the present global competitive market To make them responsible and competent citizens for better society.

OBJECTIVES & GOALS

  • Creating a genuine interest in English by means of teaching language skills as well as literature
  • Imparting a basic knowledge of English language and thus helping students learn functional aspects of English
  • Preparing students for the University examinations through an intensive study of the prescribed texts
  • Motivating students to learn basic spoken skills
  • Maintaining departmental library to keep valuable books at the disposal of the students as well as the staff
  • Making students use books in the departmental library by giving assignments
  • Encouraging students to read books in order to cultivate human and aesthetic values enshrined  in literature
  • Training students to be proficient in English by organizing Quizzes Group discussions etc.
  • Preparing students to face competitive examinations by providing a sound knowledge of English
  • Training students to be equally competent with the students of urban colleges
  • Facilitating  the  faculty to improve knowledge and competence
