Political Science Department

The department of Political Science was started in the year 1981 with an intention of providing quality education to the students to the maximum extent possible. The Political Science subject was offered with a combination of History and Economics. Since its inception there has been a great demand for H.E.P. group. The department of Political science offers B.A. (H.E.P.) course in Telugu and English medium. Many of the students of B.A. (H.E.P.) have secured good positions in every walk of life as officers, professionals, politicians etc.

To  provide holistic education and employability through higher education for rural and marginalized youth of the area.

  • To design academic programmes through which the learners fit to global necessity
  • To create and promote brain storm skills of creativity and innovation inherent in young minds of the area

  The department was started with Sri I. Manikya Rao as first member of the faculty. Dr. K. Narasimha Raju joined the department as second member. He strove well for the department. Another member to join the department was Sri N.Narapa Reddy. Later the department accommodated Sri Y. Vardhana Raju. Sri S. Rama Rao joined the department in 1988. All of them worked for the overall development of the department. FACULTY PROFILE At present there are 22 periods of workload per week. One lecturer is working in the department. Political Science I SEM Introduction to political Science
 On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to;

  1. Recall the previous knowledge about political science and understand the nature and scope, traditional and modern approaches of political science.
  2. Understand concepts intrinsic to the study of political science.
  3. Have solid theoretical understanding of rights and its theories along with the basic aspects of certain political ideologies.
  4. Apply the knowledge to observe the filed level phenomena.

    Political Science II Basic Organs of the Government.

On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to;
1 . Understand the origin and Evolution of the concept of Constitunalism and classification of governments.

  1. Acquaint themselves with different theories of origin of state.
  2. Understand and analyses organs and forms of governments along with a deep insight into the various agents involved in the political process.
  3. Apply the knowledge to analyze and evaluate the existing systems.

Political Science III Indian Government and Politics

On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to
1.  Aquire Knowledge of the historical background of Constitutional development in India, appreciate philosophical foundations and salient features of the Indian constitution.

  1. Analyze the relationship between State and individual interms of fundamental rights and directive principles of State Policy.
  2. Understand the Composition of and functioning of Union Government as well as State Government and finally.
  3. Acquaint themselves the judicial system of the country and its emerging trends such as judicial reforms.

 

Political Science IV: Course 4 -Indian Political Process
On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to

  1. Know and understand the federal system of the country and some of the vital contemporary emerging issues.
  2. Evaluate the electoral system of the country and to identify the areas of electoral reforms.
  3. know the constructional base and functioning of local governments with special emphasis on 73rd & 74th Constitutional Amendment Acts .
  4. Understand the dynamics of Indian politics, challenges faced and gained a sensitive comprehension to the contributing factors.
  5. Apply the knowledge and critically comprehend the functioning of some of the regulatory and governance institutions.
  6. Propose theoretical outline alternate models.

Political Science IV: Course 5 – Western Political Thought

 

On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to

  1. Understand the fundamental contours classical, western political philosophy, basic features of medieval political thought and shift from medieval to modern era.
  2. Understand the Social Contract Theory and appreciate its implications on the perception of State in terms of purposes and role.
    3. Acquaint with the Liberal and Marxist philosophy and analyze some trends in western political thought.
  3. Critically analyze the evolution of western political thought.

Political Science VI: Course 6(D)- Electoral Politics and voting behavior

On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to

  1. Acquaint student with the structure and manner of functioning of Election Commission of India.
  2. Understand the Political issues in electoral politics.
  3. Provide an overview on voter turnout, voting behavior in India.
  4. Aware of the role of new media and technology in election campaign.
  5. Develop an understanding of required skills for data collection research in election management.

Political Science VI: Course 7(D)- Legislative Procedures and Practices

On Successful completion of the course the student will be able to

  1. Make familiar with legislative procedures and practices.
  2. Equip the students with the adequate skills of participation in deliberative processes and democratic decision making.
  3. Understand complex policy issues, draft new legislation analyze ongoing bills, make speeches and floor statements.
  4. Provide skills to be part of a legislative support team expose them to real life legislative work.
  5. Enhance Understanding of procedures, practices, different committees and motions in the House.

PSO4: Understand the Center-State Relations, Sarkaria Commission, M.M.
